Casper revolutionised human mattresses. Now they make dog beds.
When I first saw the price $225-325 depending on size ,I was sceptical. Could a dog bed really be worth that much?
After testing the Casper with our dogs for over a year, I have a clear answer. Here's my honest review of whether this premium bed lives up to its premium price.

Bottom Line: The Casper is genuinely premium excellent foam, thoughtful design, and durability that justifies the price. But it's not the best choice for every dog. Best for design-conscious owners with medium-sized dogs who don't need maximum orthopedic support.
What Is the Casper Dog Bed?
Casper is the company that popularised "mattress in a box" for humans. They applied the same approach to dogs:
- Two-layer memory foam construction – Pressure relief + support
- Bolstered edges – Low profile, supportive sides
- Dig-friendly cover – Extra fabric mimics pawing at dirt
- Premium materials – Same quality focus as their human mattresses
- Modern design – Actually looks good in your home
The bed was developed through what Casper calls "extensive dog-centered research" and over 100 prototypes.

My Experience: 1 Year With Casper
First Impressions
The Casper arrived in a box, compressed like their human mattresses. After unboxing, it expanded within 1-2 hours.
Assembly: The bed comes in five pieces—a foam base and four bolster pieces. Assembly is straightforward but takes a few minutes to figure out how everything fits together.
Build quality: Immediately obvious this is premium. The foam feels dense and supportive. The cover material is noticeably higher quality than budget beds. The zippers are hidden in pockets so they don't scratch floors—a thoughtful detail.
Dogs' reactions: Bella (Golden Retriever) took to it immediately. She's a nester who likes to dig before settling, and the excess fabric on top seemed to satisfy that instinct.
After 1 Year
The foam hasn't flattened. This is the key test for any dog bed, and the Casper passes. After a year of daily use, the foam still springs back and provides consistent support.
The cover has held up remarkably well. Despite regular digging, washing, and general dog use, there are no tears, pills, or significant wear. The microfiber material is genuinely durable.
The bolsters are supportive but low. This is both good and bad, more on that below.

What I Love
Premium Foam Quality
The two-layer foam construction genuinely works. You can feel the pressure relief on top with solid support underneath. It's noticeably better than budget beds.
Casper used their mattress expertise here, and it shows.
Thoughtful Design Details
Little things that show attention to quality:
- Hidden zippers – Won't scratch your floors
- Excess fabric on top – Satisfies digging instincts
- Low bolsters – Don't crowd the sleeping area
- Neutral colours – Actually looks good in your home
Scratch-Resistant Cover
The microfiber cover is remarkably tough. Dogs can dig, scratch, and paw at it without damage. After a year, ours still looks nearly new.
Easy to Clean
The cover removes easily and is machine washable. It comes out clean and maintains its feel after multiple washes.
Looks Great in Your Home
Unlike most dog beds, the Casper doesn't look like a dog bed. The modern design and neutral colours blend with home décor rather than standing out as pet equipment.
What I Don't Love
Low Bolsters Aren't for Every Dog
The bolsters are intentionally low-profile. This is great for dogs who sprawl, but dogs who like to rest their chin on high bolsters may be disappointed.
Lucy (our chin-rester Golden) prefers beds with higher edges.
Not Waterproof
For the price, I expected waterproof protection. The cover is water-resistant but not waterproof. If your dog has accidents, you'll need a separate waterproof liner.
This is disappointing at the premium price point.
Large Size Is VERY Large
If you're used to buying "large" beds, the Casper large may surprise you. It's genuinely huge 45" x 35". Great if you have space, but it dominates smaller rooms.
Follow Casper's weight recommendations, not your usual size habits.
Premium Price
There's no getting around it: $225-325 is expensive for a dog bed. The quality justifies it, but it's still a significant investment.
Only Three Sizes
Small, Medium, Large. No options for toy breeds or giant breeds. If you have a Great Dane or a Chihuahua, look elsewhere.
Who Should Buy the Casper?
Definitely Buy If:
✅ Design matters to you (the bed will be visible in your home)
✅ Your dog weighs 30-90 lbs
✅ Your dog likes to dig/nest before settling
✅ You want premium quality that lasts
✅ Your dog doesn't need maximum orthopedic support
Maybe Consider If:
⚠️ Your budget is limited (quality alternatives exist for less)
⚠️ Your dog is a chin-rester (low bolsters may not satisfy)
⚠️ Your dog has accidents (you'll need a separate waterproof liner)
Don't Buy If:
❌ Your dog needs serious orthopedic support (Big Barker is better)
❌ Your dog is under 10 lbs or over 100 lbs (wrong sizes)
❌ You want a cosy/enclosed bed (this is open and flat)
❌ Your dog is a destroyer (quality won't help if they chew through it)
